Mike Healan came to wine circuitously. He grew up in a teetotaling family, and didn’t discover the pleasures of fine wine until he was almost 30, by which time he was a corporate attorney.
He has spent the years since making up for lost time. Mike eventually left the legal world and pursued his passion for food and wine at Formaggio Kitchen, the legendary cheese and gourmet shop. It was there where he was exposed to and fell in love with unmanipulated, unadulterated wine – and began to learn about Mise.
Mike believes wine is inextricable from the history, geography, and the culture of the place it comes from. “Real” wine is made by individuals with a deep connection to the land they work and respect for its traditions and terroir.
When not immersed in wine, Mike enjoys world travel, staring contests with his dogs, and eating copious amounts of cheese.
